Liposuction

What is Liposuction (Invasive Fat Removal Surgery)?
The main purpose of liposuction is to reshape one or more areas of your body, not to reduce body weight. Liposuction is typically used on “problem” areas that have not responded well to diet and exercise. These areas are often on the outer thighs and hips on women and the waist and back on men. The face, neck, abdomen, back, buttocks, legs, and upper arms are all commonly treated areas.
Liposuction is sometimes used in combination with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a “tummy tuck” (abdominoplasty), or face-lift.

Liposuction may also be used to treat certain medical conditions, including:

  • Benign fatty tumors (lipomas).
  • Abnormal enlargement of the gynecomastia.
  • Problems with metabolisam of fat in the body
  • Axillary hyperhidrosis.

Deciding on liposuction

Exercise and diet are not helping you in the way that you would really like before resorting to liposuction.

Liposuction is usually a very quick procedure that uses minimum incision in the fatty areas and suctions out the fat very easily without much scarring and blood loss. Liposuction in women are mostly carried in abdomen, hips, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, and double chin. The surgery is performed for about 1- 2 hours with general anaesthetic often taken as a day case.

Often the post-surgery aspect is challenging for many people. It is very important to wear a compression garment for about 3- 4 weeks minimum in order to avoid swelling in the operated parts. After the surgery, a person can very soon get back to normal activities after 1-2 weeks of recuperation

Liposuction is not used to treatobesity. It will not get rid of cellulite or stretch marks.

Menopause is often a time of unwanted weight gains due to hormonal changes, and post-pregnancy can be a time for weight gains, but if you’re not exercising or taking care of your nutrition needs then you should look at these solutions before surgery.

The first step in deciding between a tummy tuck and liposuction is to examine your body’s abdominal condition and the specific issues you would like to correct.

A tummy tuck is usually suggested for people who have lost skin elasticity around their waist. As such, ideal candidates include women carrying stretch marks from pregnancies. It is also a highly recommended procedure for women who have loose skin as a result of rapid weight loss.

In contrast, liposuction is mostly targeted at people with elastic skin. Since the procedure only aims to remove the fat, liposuction does not produce the same level of results on those with loose skin.

tummy tuck will require approximately 4 for full recovery and will leave a larger scar. Recovery time for liposuction is significantly shorter and easier as it is a less invasive procedure.
